(Pre-Wedding) Honeymoon, Part XXIII - Show's Over

We awoke in BA, fairly well rested, nearly all packed, and ready to set out on our final day in South America.  The glorious ride of the pre-wedding honeymoon, slowly coming to a gradual stop.

Our plan for the day was to wander Palermo, do some shopping, have a good meal or two, relax and then head off to the airport to being our long journey home.

I'm happy to say, we accomplished all these items.  The spoils of the day included...
...4 pairs of footwear and a hand-woven wool area rug from artisans in the Santa Fe region of Argentina.  That will be put to good use in our home, once we have a bit more confidence in Cholula's wee wee habits.  Our spoils came from stores such as Mandarine (for GG's shoes), Honkytonk (for one of my pairs of shoes), Agua Patagona (for my other shoes), and Elementos Argentinos (for the handmade rug).

We paused for a lovely, health, and refreshing late lunch at Quimbombo which i had read about in both Black Book and a fun blog I discovered while researching some good BA meals called Pick Up the Fork. I was on the verge of a hunger meltdown and this meal was exactly what I needed.  We order fresh fruit juice concoctions - mine was an iced blend of passion fruit, orange, lime, mint and ginger (and i found out, some sugar as well).  It was delicious.  Then, we found simple comfort in what they called Pita Sandwiches, which was actually we call wraps.  GG opted for a falafel wrap while i decided on a grilled chicken and cheese one.  I also ordered a side of saffron dusted roasted potatoes.  Yum.

our final meal in south america...

My chicken wrap...

Saffron potatoes - needed to get my starch on!

GG falafel wrap, up close.

Getting to work...and note the refreshing juice to the left...
After hoisting our newfound shoes and rug back to the hotel in 90 degree-plus heat, we spent our last hour in BA taking a dip in the courtyard pool and relaxing.  The relaxing ended when we got our bags out of storage, repacked everything in a hallway to accommodate our new material acquisitions, and then sat in a cab for well over an hour as we attempted to get to the airport when there was a surprise shutdown of the main highway to the airport.  Fortunately, we left plenty of time to get there for a change...

Last moments in the Atempo Hotel lobby...all packed up.
We finally cleared security, picked up some alfajores to bring back for a select group of our sweet-toothed family members and enjoyed one final toast, this one at the scenic Buenos Aires airport Admiral's Lounge.

One final glass of south american bubbly...

The BA to MIA flight was relaxing in business class…GG watched the Social Network while I opted for Let the Right One In that Cary Mulligan was nominated for…I really enjoyed that as I choked down some dry chicken breast and salad with a few glasses of Malbec.

Just as I was getting ready to go to sleep (GG had just gone down to full sleeper seat position), I realized my chair was broken.  I hit my call button and no flight attendant came for 10 mins.  Then one walked by so I grabbed her.  She got another person who said I would need to switch my seat if I wanted to sleep.  So I went to another aisle seat on the other side of the plane, next to some random sleeping woman, and, no joke, this seat was broken as well.  I was furious, agitated and no longer sleepy.  I went back to my original seat so I could at least be next to GG and then tried to fall asleep sitting up, with Ambien working hard to make that happen.  Eventually I did pass out for a few hours to arrive in Miami.

Our stop in the Miami Admiral’s club was uneventful and now we’re on our flight to St. Louis.  Soon enough, the promotion will be complete and, if we’re lucky, we’ll actually beat the snow and get to LGA!

It’s been tough coming to terms with the fact that this amazing monthlong adventure is coming to an end – with so much anticipation and high expectations going into it, it’s so strange that in just a few hours it will be over (unless a lost bag at LGA extends our trip experience).  But, the memories of a lifetime that have developed throughout our adventure will stay with us forever.  I think that's one of the most exciting and rewarding takeaways of this unique experience in our lives.   And the best part of all of this, is that this is still only the early days of the many great adventures GG and I will get to take together in our lives!  Hopefully some of them won’t be as exhausting as this one!  We both feel like we need another vacation just to recover from all the adventures.
